The 90s are over.. stop using old gutter styles
Styles change. Things that were once cool turn into cringe as new things become trendy. There was a time when you probably had Golden Oak arch panel kitchen cabinets, stained flat-panel interior doors and Hollywood vanity lights in your bathroom, you certainly won’t be putting those type of details and finishes in your new build, so why would you install the same gutter style that your grandparents did?
For many decades, from the 40s up into the 00s there weren’t many options for gutters. The industry had very minimal innovation, and the little that was there mainly focused on mounting brackets and refining the design of the roll-former gutter machine. However, in the later 2010’s things started to change and with the creation of a couple of industry communities, innovation took a meteoric rise and gutter machine manufactures released a salvo of new shapes for seamless gutter.
Today, though not widely known, there are about a dozen shapes of seamless gutter, each in several sizes, with just as many shapes of downspout. The Gutter Guy has one of the most extensive product lists of alternative styles of gutter in the USA with over 11+ shapes and sizes in-house, and we’re local to East Texas.
What options exist?
In East Texas, there are quite a few seamless gutter options, including:
K-Style — The traditional ogee shape, usually paired with fluted rectangular downspouts.
Straight-Face — A profile similar in size to K-style, but with a flat front instead of an ogee curve; often paired with smooth rectangular or round downspouts.
Fascia Gutter — A taller, narrower version of straight-face, originally designed for mounting to open rafter tails as a dual-purpose alternative to fascia.
Box Gutter — A category with many sub-styles, all featuring prominent 90-degree angles and flat faces, most often paired with smooth rectangular downspouts.
Half-Round — A half-circle trough, often mounted with external decorative brackets and round downspouts.
Rain Chains — A downspout alternative that uses linked chains or ornate cups to direct water downward in a decorative way.
Which one looks best?
This is one of the best parts about the options that we now have, we can find the one that fits your specific home and your personal taste. Whether you have a contemporary farmhouse, a barndominium or an ultra-modern, there’s a style of gutter that functions perfectly AND compliments your home.
When you’re building a new home or remodeling you current home, consider how visible the gutters are. They’re one of the first things you see, don’t mess up the aesthetic. As I like to say in my advertisements, You have a nice house, don’t get ugly gutters.
The Gutter Guy can help. Whether you’re at the design stage on paper, or the remodel we can show you options and samples and walk your through the process of choosing the right style. It’s what we do best. You can also go out and see our work in person at least twice a year at the East Texas Builders Association Parade of Homes.
