...But we can, it's just that no one asks.

As a gutter installer who’s active in the industry community my Facebook feed probably has way more gutter related content than most. However, from time to time posts about castle downspouts make their viral rounds in posts that decry how ‘we just don’t make them like they used to’ … which is an utter rubbish take at any rate as if every house in the 1700s was ornate, for one, these were castles not McMansions. But more importantly, the notion that we don’t have such things anymore is completely false.

These images are of Downspout Boots which forms of really still exist (albeit in niche outlets) and can, by knowledgeable tradesmen (like us -shameless plug) be installed on your project

Here’s a few designs that are even somewhat mass produced.

We’ve done a few of the bass here in East Texas and we even make spiral downspout here in our shop. The lack of them in neighborhoods isn’t because they don’t exist, it’s actually a much more simple reason.

Homeowners don’t value them

The reason you don’t see them in your neighborhood is because the’yre expensive and the average homeowner doesn’t place that much value in their gutter systems.

How much do they cost?

Between a conductor head, spiral spout and a boot a ‘castle downspouts’ will run about $2500-$3500 apiece. Before you freak out, please remember point one of my rant, these. were. castles… not single family suburban McMansions.

Can THE GUTTER GUY make ‘Castle Downspouts’?

We absolutely can, in about as many ways as you can dream up (including custom casting).

We can also make more affordable versions! I’m not a hardcore conservative when it comes to architecture and building materials. I truly believe some things are much better than others, but new materials and practices are often even better than old world ones. When it comes to castle downspouts, there are materials that can be used to keep the form and function, but not cost quite so many arms and legs.

If you have a classy project coming up, of any architectual style we’re more than happy to look over your plans and renderings and offer some options and designs to consider.

Back to the point..

Cool things still exist, you just have to want them enough.
